Guia Nocon is the Director of Catering for the 1100 Group. She was born in the Philippines and raised in Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and Sacramento. She started working in the restaurant industry when she was 16 at a tiny sandwich shop in Folsom, CA. Owing her love of hospitality to her large, Filipino family, she understands the importance of community through a welcoming, nurturing, fun atmosphere centered around delicious food, drink, and conversation.
Guia earned her degree in Literature, Creative Writing with an emphasis in poetry from the University of California in Santa Cruz. She is honored to have studied under numerous luminaries including National Book Award Poet, Nathaniel Mackey; Santa Cruz Poet Laureate, Gary Young; and activists, Angela Davis and Bettina Aptheker.
After college Guia spent some years in Portland, Oregon where she worked various restaurant jobs while also a working poet and music journalist. She moved back to San Francisco in 2010 and since then have bartended, waited tables, and managed at various restaurants. Guia approaches her work with passion, dedication, organization, and with the singular purpose of providing the best possible experience to her clients.
When not working she can usually be found tracking down a new book to add to her library, hanging out with her dog, family, friends, or driving all over California in search of adventure.
